You Are Your Own Fairy Tale
I started reading You Are Your Own Fairy Tale by Amanda Lovelace yesterday and I’m already over halfway through. It’s a beautiful book of poetry of advice for women of all ages. Some of it is advice from your “fairy godmother” and others is from a “big sister”, and I’ve dog-eared so many pages I want to come back to read again to just absorb her magical words.
Advice like:
Every full moon is a reminder
Of what has come full circle
& must be released
Every new moon is a chance
To start anew.
–cherish every phase.
–by Amanda Lovelace
And
I stopped wondering
When the next chapter
Would finally begin,
& I started writing it instead.
–how I got out of my own way
–by Amanda Lovelace
There’s only a short passage or poem or piece of advice on each page so it makes for quick reading, but deep thinking. If you know any girl, sister, or friend that needs a little boost for self-confidence or a pick-me-up to believe in herself again, gift her this book.
Last week I finished two books: The Haunted Mesa by Louis L’Amour and Witches Abroad by Terry Pratchett. After not being able to read for several years after dealing with trauma, I am now finally able to read full books with focus. I seem to be switching genres every book, but that’s ok. I’ve got several years of reading to catch up on and I’m just reading the books that come to me right now.
What is your favorite genre to read? Or do you skip around too?
