Why You Should Have a Journaling Routine
Everyone has some type of morning and nighttime routine, but do you need a journaling routine? You can write in your journal whenever you want, but there are some benefits to having a journaling routine.
Routines Are Essential to Building Habits
As we build habits, they become so routine we don’t even think about them, such as brushing our teeth or taking a bath. But to build those habits we had to start mindfully adding them to our daily schedule.
To add a daily journaling routine in with your other routines, decide when to add it to your day. Are you more likely to write in the mornings just before the day begins? Or in the evenings to help you relax and unwind from the day.
In the mornings, it can be a time set aside when you are just getting up and drinking your cup of coffee. In the evenings, it can be just after your bath when you are relaxed and sitting in bed before going to sleep. Or, it could be on your lunch break. The important thing is to find the time when you would most likely to be consistent and enjoy the time writing.
You Benefit the Most with a Regular Routine
Setting a regular journaling routine is setting yourself up for success, just as setting other habits sets you up for success. Regular routines help us accomplish personal and professional goals, self-care, and health goals. When you set a habit of writing in your journal to reduce stress before going to sleep, you will benefit from that habit.
It is a Great Way to Practice Self-Care
Journaling is also a form of self-care. Add it to your other daily routines that focus on self-care for over-all benefits to reduce stress. Do some yoga, then light an aromatherapy candle or have a cup of herbal tea while writing in your journal. This type of self-care routine is good for your physical health, your mind, and your well-being.
