Sunflowers and Doves
This morning I sat out in my front porch to enjoy the sun (and boost my Vitamin D!). I have been doing this for a few months now, changing my morning schedule to include about 20-30 minutes to soak up those rays, read a book (I’m currently reading Take Off Your Pants!: Outline Your Books for Faster, Better Writing by Libbie Hawker), and look up and around at what’s going on in the neighborhood.
I love listening to the Mourning Doves coo and fly back and forth on their way from this tree to that tree, this side of the street to the other side and then across the way and back again. I have grown fond of them this summer.
The sunflowers my daughter planted are growing tall and strong and are putting off numerous flowers along the stalks. The bees, small wasps and other insects buzz around them as I shift my attention from them, to my book, and then back to watching the neighborhood.
Greebo’s sister walked past me. She has a belly on her, definitely pregnant, again. She is feral outside, and Greebo is feral inside. (*here is the story of how we ended up with Greebo, in case you are new).
Greebo still bites and hisses once in a while, but she is taming down somewhat. I can pet her over most of her body now and pick her up for a snuggle for just a bit before she’s had enough. She also comes to me now to get snuggles, admitting that it’s really not all that bad like she used to think.
Today will be nearly 100 degrees again, as it will for the next few weeks. I’m going to fix some lunch and then work a few hours on my writing.
‘Til tomorrow…
