Lavender and Earl Grey Milk Tea
Recipe from Summer Iced Tea Recipes: 50+ Regular, Herbal, Milk, and Fruity Teas
Prep: 5 min Cook: 15 min Serves: 1
Ingredients:
1 Tb loose Earl Grey tea
1 tsp dried lavender flowers
1 cup water
½ cup milk
Honey or sugar, to taste
Directions:
- In a small saucepan, bring the water to boil.
- While it’s boiling, add the Earl Grey tea and the lavender flowers. Reduce to a simmer for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to fully infuse.
- Strain the tea into a mug, removing the tea leaves and lavender flowers.
- Stir in the sugar to dissolve.
- In a separate saucepan, heat the milk to warm. You can use a frother or whisk if you prefer frothy milk.
- Pour the warm milk (and honey, if using) into the tea and stir to combine.
- Serve over ice and garnish with a few lavender buds or a slice of lemon.
Fun Fact!
Earl Grey tea is traditionally infused with the oil from the rind of the bergamot orange, giving it a nice citrus flavor. This blend was created by a Chinese mandarin tea master and given to Charles Grey, the 2nd Earl of Grey and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1830-1834. The purpose of the bergamot flavoring was to offset the lime flavor in the well water on the Earl’s estate.
